Lessons for Producing Results

  1. The Foolproof Combination of Action and Attitude: It isn't enough to have a good attitude if you're not in action, or to take action if internally you are arguing against your success. It's important to improve both at once.

  2. Practice Gold Time Management: Gold Time is time spent on important but not urgent activities. By focusing on Gold Time activities, you are led to a life of less stress because you are in more control of your life. Fewer things reach the crisis stage and you are being proactive by taking important steps before they become urgent.

  3. Manage Your Thoughts and Feelings: Your thoughts and feelings lead directly to the results you produce. This is also called the Law of Attraction. "What you focus on is what you get." What you put out (consciously or subconsciously) is what comes back to you. The more you are aware of your thoughts and feelings, the more opportunity you have to "flip the pancake" on them and generate positive ones that attract what you really want.

  4. Demonstrate Commitment: Simply stated, "be proactive" and demonstrate your commitment by focusing on the actions and activities that produce the results you want.

  5. Play the Game: It's been said that life isn't a "dress rehearsal" so you are invited to really play "full out." There are only two rules to this game:
    • Know exactly what you want.
    • Always know exactly what you are doing.
Once you have guidelines and goals so you know what you want, you need to stay on top of your plan, do monthly reviews, keep in touch with a partner or coach and use PRO (or any combination of the above) to know how you are doing.

  6. Focus, Focus, Focus: Focus on positive thoughts, not negative ones. Focus on getting back on the horse if you should fall off. Don’t focus on the fact you fell off. Really, no one cares for the most part if you fall off except for you. (They're all preoccupied with their own horses!)

  7. Keep an Eye on the Plan: Use the Best Year Yet® Traffic Light process religiously. If your goals are in yellow (needs help) or red (in trouble) simply acknowledge it and ask yourself what the next step towards that goal needs to be. Then either take action, revise your objective (if there is new evidence that indicates you should) or make a plan for taking that next step. Share any changes with someone else so you have the power to then let go of your disappointment and move on!

  8. Get and Use Support: Ask your partner or coach to hold you accountable for your personal progress. Choose a friend or family member only if you can't find someone else willing to work with you. Friends and relatives will probably be more likely to let things slip.

  9. Motivate Yourself: True motivation comes from within. Your strongest drive is to demonstrate your personal values. Stay in touch with your values. If you start to notice yourself losing motivation, ask yourself where you might be out of line with your values.

  10. Take Care of Yourself: Devote attention to your physical and mental well being. Set a goal each month for taking care of yourself. This is one not to skip! Ideas: writing ("morning pages"), "artist dates" (time with art, nature), yoga, meditation and the usual, good habits, exercise and just plain old time for oneself.

  11. Generate Abundance: Examine how you think about yourself and money. Be a good steward of what you have. Take 100% responsibility for your money. Give generously. Share yourself in other ways.

  12. Help Others: Help others be successful, put your gifts to work. Pass along what you've learned about producing the results you've always wanted.
