From the preface... The purpose of this book is to make coaching accessible to human service professionals. Whether you are interested in becoming a coach, using coaching skills in your existing work environment, or using self-coaching to create more balance and fulfillment in your own life, this handbook will assist you. The contents are synthesized from my own training and development as a therapist whose transition into coaching began seven years ago. My development as a coach continues, and, while becoming a coach has been a bigger challenge than I ever would have imagined, the rewards are many. Coaching has expanded my world—literally and figuratively—and introduced me to people, places and ideas of which I would never have dreamed. I have also been in the fortunate position of mentoring/coaching a number of wonderful clinician coaches who have brought these skills into a variety of settings. Examples include the Veteran's Administration, a diabetes center at a major inner-city children's hospital, an art therapy practice, and a program for adolescent offenders.
